SCS Forest Product's MC-Pro 1500 moisture density sorter is used in the Sawmill to presort lumber for kiln drying or on the planer in-feed to drop out wet boards. The system uses sensors riding on top and beneath the wood which capture moisture and density data to calculate wet data readings at line speeds of 200+ pieces/minute.
Benefits
Reduces the moisture content spread
Sort inventory is controlled and kiln throughput is maximized
Allows operators to develop more optimal drying schedules
Product Features
Full contact top and bottom sensors for optimum accuracy
Automatic adjustment for temperature and humidity
Self adjusting for thickness variations
Automatic adjustment for frozen wood
Easy interface with sawmill sorter lines
Little or no adjustment required between winter and summer conditions
One pass, easy calibration
Operation
Green lumber passes through the MC-Pro 1500 meter which is located just prior to the sorter in-feed
Sensors scan each piece of lumber at approximately 24” intervals along the length
Moisture content and density of each piece is measured and a dry-ability index number between 1 and 100 is assigned
Sawmill PLC diverts lumber into one of up to four sort categories based on this assigned number
All loads are tagged with a sort category as they leave the sawmill and kiln charges are built based on sort categories
